Istanbul, home for its 13.2 million residents, is the largest city in Turkey and one of the largest in the world. Till 1995, the municipal waste was land filled to several landfill areas however since 1995, all the municipal waste in Istanbul is being disposed to two landfill areas in Istanbul namely Odayeri and Komurcuoda 44 hectares and 51 hectares, respectively.
ISTANBUL LANDFILL GAS PROJECT
The project involves the development, and construction of two waste-to-energy facilities at both the Odayeri and Komurcuoda landfill sites.
The project objective is to build, operate, and maintain two landfill waste-to-energy systems consisting of landfill gas (LFG) collection systems, flaring stations, and gas engines coupled with generators to produce electricity. The gas engines will combust the LFG to produce electricity, and any excess LFG will be flared.
The project activity covers 36 gas engines which 24 gas engines to be installed to Odayeri site and 12 gas engines to be installed to Kömürcüoda.
